Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells: Current Status and Recent AdvancementsBio:
Prof. Hiranmay Saha, born on January 4, 1946, joined the Department of Physics in the University of Kalyani in 1968 as a lecturer and later in 1988 he joined as professor in the Dept of Prof Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering , Jadavpur university. Currently he is Visiting Professor and Project coordinator in the Centre of Excellence for Green Energy and Sensor Systems, in IIEST, Shibpur.
His research interests are in solar cells and solar PV systems, porous silicon, gas and vapour sensors including MEMS and VLSI design. His Phd work submitted in 1975 was on Solar Cells and Systems is one of the earliest in India. . He has established the country’s first solar powered community TV centre at the villageCharasarati near Kalyani University in 1978. He has also played a key role in developing the concept and specifications of solar lantern and its central charging station. He has established a state of art lab for the fabrication and characterization of c-Si and a-Si solar cells and also on Solar PV systems at CEGESS, IIEST as the Principal Investigator of two major R&D Projects sponsored by DST and MNRE, GOI. He has published more than 300 papers in international and national journals and conferences, supervised the PhD thesis of 30 students. He has received the prestigious PVSEC award for his outstanding contribution in Solar Photovoltaic systems.
